McDonalds is a fairly old business to Dawson County.  As such, its lighting practices reflect the "throw more light at it" mentality that permeates development.  McDonalds has 8 huge and bright parking lot lights each of which throw of a huge amount of glare into patrons eyes.  McDonald's would have received a failing Lighting Grade except for the fact that all parking lot lights are shut off in the evening during closed hours, saving at least some of the evening sky for North Georgia residents.

This photograph shows the location of some of the offending light fixtures (red). There are several more outside the frame of this picture.  Reducing the number of parking lot light poles by half would still provide an adequately illuminated lot, save money and reduce light pollution.  A win-win for all!

This is McDonalds in the evening.  Notice the source of the blinding lights (A).  Drivers eyes are assaulted when they pull into this parking lot.

Here is a close-up of the offending fixtures.  Remember the rule.... point the lights 90 degrees down!!!
