Kentucky Fried Chicken is a significant source of light pollution due to the directional lighting mounted on their roof. These lights ring the entire roof. Customers entering their parking lot are greeted by the blinding lights. There is hope for KFC, though. Periodically, they turn off their exterior lights during closed hours, but not often enough give them a passing Lighting Grade.
This photograph shows the location of some of the offending light fixtures (red) and the correct type of light fixtures (blue).
This is what KFC looks like in the evening. Notice the source of the blinding lights (B). Also, notice the C light fixtures. Notice that all of their light is directed downwards. This is the result of a properly shielded fixture. Fixture A is not operating in this photograph.
The fixture over the door is the A fixture in the first photograph. These wallpack fixtures are BAD for the county. The fixture to the right is identified as C in the first photograph. This is a GOOD light. This fixture is properly designed because of the shielding. The shielding puts all of the light downwards eliminating glare.
This photograph show the "B" fixtures. Notice how the fixture has the light source totally exposed causing the maximum amount of light tresspass and glare. This fixture should be pointing 90 degrees down. This is a BAD light!!!
