Arby's was built just before the GA 400 Development guidelines were enacted. Overall, Arby's lighting arrangement is pretty good. All of their fixtures are full-cutoff and occasionally the management shuts off all exterior lights when the restaurant is closed. The only significant problem is the uplighting on the flagpole. Many opinions exist about flagpoles. While we can applaud Arby's patriotism, the flag should be respected and brought in every day instead of leaving it outside. With the flag brought in, the need for uplighting would be eliminated. That withstanding, Arby's lighting make them a "Good Neighbor".
This photograph shows the location of some of the light fixtures. Bad light fixtures are indicated in RED and the proper light fixtures are indicated in BLUE.
This is what Arby's looks like in the evening. The effect of the full cutoff fixtures can be seen in this picture. Very little glare is visible from the lights. The one thing that would help Arby's would be 2 fewer light poles and better positioning of the remaining lights. Also, the uplighting of the flag needs to be re-evaluated.
This is a close-up of fixtures identifed in the first photograph. These are excellent light fixtures! The light source and the lens are not visible when viewing from the side. The parking lot could benefit from 2 fewer poles and the wattage of these lights could be dropped a bit, as well. With those exceptions, Arby's gets a good Lighting Grade.
